Robert Melvin is a licensed professional planner in the State of New Jersey. He co-founded the firm of melvin|kernan LLC in December 2004, specializing in planning, urban design and community development and redevelopment. Mr. Melvin holds a Master’s degree in City Planning and Urban Design from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor’s degree in History from Colgate University. He attended the Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies sponsored through MOMA to study architecture. From 1996 to 2004 Mr. Melvin was both Director of Planning for Washington Township, Mercer County, and project manager in charge of the design and development of Washington Town Center. Town Center has been honored with several national and local awards including; the prestigious 2001 Congress for the New Urbanism Charter Award for Excellence, the 2000 New Jersey American Planning Association Environmental Achievement Award and the 1997 MSM C.M. Norton Community Development Award. In 2000 Mr. Melvin was honored with the New Jersey American Planning Association Presidents Award for Professional Courage. Mr. Melvin has spoken widely throughout the United States about smart growth, sustainable development. |
