melvin|kernan was hired by the Gloucester County Improvement Authority to prepare redevelopment plans for Monroe Township, Mantua Township and Woodbury City.  While the purpose of the plans varied, m|k always had the same goal - utilizing the principles of  Smart Growth in order to foster economically, socially and environmentally sustainable communities.  In Monroe Township, m|k prepared two plans: Mink Lane and Acme Shopping Center – one for the remediation of a former landfill and one for the redevelopment of a vacant shopping center – both of which recommended a program that would increase commercial ratables, create a mixed use community and help the Township meet its affordable housing obligations.  m|k prepared plans for Mantua Township that were also geared toward helping the Township meet its affordable housing obligations.  Finally, m|k is undertaking a landmark project in Woodbury City where they will rehabilitate the historic G.G. Green Block Building in order to provide state-of-the-art office, retail, residential and cultural space.  The goal of this project is to jumpstart the revitalization of downtown Woodbury and establish it as a premiere destination within Gloucester County.
