  Woolwich Center Design
In 2002, Woolwich Township in Gloucester County became the fastest growing municipality in New Jersey.  Faced with enormous growth pressures and sprawling development patterns, the Township hired melvin|kernan to accommodate projected growth over the next 25 years into a new town center. melvin|kernan   is preparing all necessary plans and implementing design standards and zoning regulations.  Plans will address land use, vehicular circulation, pedestrian and bicycle circulation, public spaces and greenway linkages, and sewer and water infrastructure.  A state-of-the-art stormwater management plan will emphasize “green” approaches to maximize ground water recharge, water quality protection and nonstructural stormwater management techniques. melvin|kernan   is facilitating all necessary coordination with county and state agencies to ensure needed permits and approvals are obtained.  The end result will re-direct sprawling development into a compact, mixed use, pedestrian-oriented community. The new town center will merge traditional design elements of the past with the functional and aesthetic realities of the 21st century to create a truly unique and exciting place. By achieving this goal we are promoting a healthier environment and a healthier lifestyle for the people of Woolwich.
